The 18 clubs to have appeared in the Nedbank Cup final since 2008

PIC: Orlando Pirates have appeared in a record seven Nedbank Cup finals since 2008

There have been 18 different clubs to have reached the Nedbank Cup final in the 18 previous seasons of the competition, which was first played in its current guise in 2008.

Of those, nine have managed to get their name onto the trophy, including 2026 finalists TS Galaxy, who were the only side from outside the top flight to claim the title when they shocked Kaizer Chiefs in the 2019 decider.

This season they take on Durban City in the final at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane on May 2 (kick-off 18h00), with their opponents having previously appeared in the final as Maritzburg United in 2018. On that occasion, they lost to Free State Stars in Cape Town.

Orlando Pirates have appeared in the most finals with seven, winning four of those to be the joint most successful side in the competition, along with Mamelodi Sundowns.

The Brazilians also have four wins from their six visits to the showpiece decider, a slightly better conversion rate.

Only four other clubs have been to more than one final.

SuperSport United have appeared in four, winning three of those in 2012, 2016 and 2017. They lost the 2013 decider.

Current champions Kaizer Chiefs appeared in their third final in 2025, where they beat Pirates 2-1 to go with their triumph over SuperSport in 2013. They lost out to Galaxy in 2019.

Bidvest Wits and Marumo Gallants have both won one of their two final appearances. Wits beat AmaZulu in 2010 but then lost to Pirates in 2014, while Gallants beat Chippa United in 2021 but the following year were beaten by Sundowns.

There are three clubs with 100% records in Nedbank Cup finals, though all have only been to the decider once.

Free State Stars, Moroka Swallows and Galaxy all won their only final appearance, with the latter desperate to become the only club to retain a 100% record from two or more appearances.

Nine clubs hold the unwanted distinction of reaching the final but never lifting the trophy.

No team has ever done that twice, so Durban City will be desperate to avoid that fate.

The others to have appeared in the showpiece fixture but not won are Ajax Cape Town, AmaZulu, Black Leopards, Bloemfontein Celtic, Chippa United, Mpumalanga Black Aces, Sekhukhune United and the University of Pretoria.
